Who Are You?
I'm Kat, the cabinet's keeper. My pronouns are he/him/his.
I've enjoyed dolls since childhood. I've been involved specifically with resin ball jointed dolls since ~2020. I have more than I planned on, and they bring me great joy. Before BJDs I customized fashion dolls (shoutout to Monster High, where so many people start).
I've been interested in the 'indie web' for a few years now. I crafted my own website for my 'fandom' stuff, but it wasn't enough... I wanted a place for my doll hobby too, away from major social media sites. Something just my own.
Coding my personal site was a lot of effort, though. I put off The Doll Cabinet because I wasn't sure where to begin crafting the components I wanted for the site.
Enter: Eleventy! What a wonderful thing. It's a static site generator [SSG]. In about 2 weeks time, I've gone from nothing to the website you're on right now. That's a lot faster than my personal site took [an entire year+].
My hope for this website is to document my hobby to share with others. Maybe also pass along knowledge tidbits I pick up, should I ever manage to write up coherent instructions.
I plan on updating this site more in the coming year. I've got plans to upload profiles for several dolls, refining the site's appearance, and starting some project journals. We'll see where things end up!
